Dr. Somers is a general pediatrician with UPMC Children’s Community Pediatrics-GIL. Under his leadership, his Pittsburgh office was recognized by the Green Building Alliance (GBA) as the first green pediatric office in Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania in 2007 and is currently designated as a Pitt Green Office. In addition, Dr. Somers completed a certificate in Plant-Based Nutrition from the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies at Cornell University to help address the nutritional challenges facing many children and families. He serves on the advisory committee for the Phipps Let’s Move Pittsburgh program and is a member of the Committee on Climate and Environmental Health at the Pennsylvania Chapter of the America Academy of Pediatrics. He is chair of the office greening committee for the Clinicians for Climate Action (C4CA). 

Dr. Somers received his medical degree from Hahnemann University School of Medicine (now Drexel University) and completed his residency at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.
