Amanda Artsen, MD, MSc

Dr. Artsen is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Services at the University of Pittsburgh. She is also a Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women’s Health (BIRCWH) scholar. As an academic surgeon-scientist, she divides her time between clinical duties, teaching, and research. Her research on sustainable mesh materials aims to transform the field from using petroleum-based plastic meshes to sustainable and biodegradable biomaterials. As the mother of three children, she believes action must be taken now to avoid further environmental damage and ensure a safe and healthy future for all. 

Dr. Artsen attended medical school at Washington University in St. Louis, residency at the University of California, San Diego, and fellowship at UPMC.
